Soul (n.) the animating and vital principle in mad credited with the faculties of thought, action and emotion, and conceived as forming an immaterial entity distinguished from but temporarily coexistent with the body. ~The American Heritage Dictionary
The soul, in my mind, has nothing to do with faith. The soul is not a tangible part of you. it is not something you can see, or feel. The soul is not this great metaphysical energy which transfers from body to body over centuries of time. The soul is not the energy or power of being. To me, a soul is a person, in every sense of the word. A person's existence, life, emotion, thought, very being, when combined, is their soul. I do not believe that souls have anything to do with religion. I do not believe the soul goes to heaven or to hell. I simply believe that a soul is what makes a person who they are. When someone dies, I believe their soul dies with them.
But enough of faith and metaphysics.
More importantly, I believe that the soul is the source of emotion. Many people would say that the heart is where emotion comes from. I disagree. The heart is a tangible organ which pumps blood and maintains life. Emotions are not so tangible. Emotions come from the soul, which is why I have names this part of my site "soul". |
